Located in the heart of Yangon is the place that every tourist is looking for. A place to get in touch with the wild animals and birds. Hop on the bus and head over to the Zoological Garden, an area of over 69 acres beaming with friendly smiles and flora and fauna. The zoo also holds animal performances that are worth watching or better yet, explore the whole zoo while riding on the back of an elephant or even a horse! 

Denoting the many symbols of national races, the National Races Village is another must visit attraction of the city. The architectural styles of a Kayin Tradition House and the numerous handicrafts that come along with it, makes these the focal attraction. 

Displaying some of the most precious stones is the Gems Museum. A 4 story building dedicated to rubies, sapphires, jades, pearls and many more gems, this museum provides an exquisite collection of some of the finest assorted coloured stones that one will ever come across.

Yangon International Airport is located at a distance of approximately 15 kilometers or 9 miles north of central Yangon city. 

The only standard mode available for reaching the city center from Yangon International Airport is via the taxis. Bargaining for an appropriate fare with the driver is the normal custom; otherwise you can always opt to get hold of a pre-paid taxi from one of the taxi booths available in the baggage claim area of the airport. This ensures that foreigners are not overcharged by the drivers. 

If you want to get hold of one of the city buses, then you would have to walk a short distance from the airport to the airport road usually entailing a walk of around 15 to 20 minutes. There are no buses directly operating from Yangon International Airport. 

A convenient mode of getting around Yangon is via the taxis. Taxis can easily be spotted by their blue body and the fares charged are cheap. Taxis are generally not metered so deciding upon the fare prior to setting off on your journey is always a good practice. Drivers usually understand a little English so getting to your intended destination is not a problem. Rickshaws also operate in Yangon making it another one of the cheap modes of getting around. 

Yangon city also operates a bus system although it is not usually a recommended means of getting around for the foreigners. There is no fixed route taken by these buses hence it may get a little confusing. Buses generally tend to the overcrowded and there is no air-conditioning. Shorter distances can be covered using the cycle rickshaws. These will generally be in abundance at some of the tourist attractions of the city. 

Accommodations in Yangon generally include high-end plaza and boutique hotels, smaller bed and breakfasts and guesthouses. Accommodation choices are varied catering to the different preferences and budget limitations of the arriving guests. A number of luxury and boutique hotels are also found in Yangon city offering high-end rooms that are equipped with the modern amenities and facilities. Facilities in this category will generally include spacious air-conditioned rooms, indoor and outdoor pools, restaurants serving local and international cuisines and health centers. 

While hotels in Yangon are generally pricier than other parts of the country but a number of good value guesthouses can still be found in the city. Facilities being offered are basic that includes modest rooms. Many other reasonably fared plaza hotels are also included in the mid-ranged and budget accommodation options available in Yangon. These are especially a good option for the backpackers touring Yangon.  

Accommodations in the immediate vicinity of the airport are hard to find in Yangon.
