Flights to Accra, Ghana are facing a tough time since the dissolution of Ghana International Airline. The country is one of the most visited countries in Africa as a large number of Ghanaian Nationals are studying, living, or working in western destinations. A big number of Ghanaian nationals travel to the country each year from UK. In this context, if we calculate the number of low-cost airlines offering cheap flight to Ghana, they are very limited.
Only in May this year Virgin Atlantic offered flights to Accra. British Airways has already been there in the league however still the total number of travellers and an even bigger number of working class, travelling to Ghana in Summer and Winter vacations requires more variety and availability of flight fares to the country.
Very recently, Brussels Airlines has been the one to lend its hand in making flights to Ghana bigger and better. At this occasion, Mr Bernard Gustin, Co-Chief Executive Officer of Brussels Airlines stated that business operations of the airline would market Accra to Brussels and other parts of the globe. This much-needed effort, for sure, will help not only Ghanaian national travellers but also a wider clientele of tourists willing to discover the wildlife reserves in Ghana.
Mr Bernard Gustin further stated:
“ Eighty-two per cent of our customers are coming from somewhere in the world, turning up in Brussels and ending up in Africa,”
Air Brussels launched its flights to Accra, Ghana earlier last month. Mr Bernard Gustin declared that Air Brussels owes a great part of its growth to the lucrative African route, which made the flight “highly dedicated to Africa”.
However, there is a tough competition in the African market and airline is competing hard to attract more travellers to African destinations. Mr Bernard Gustin further stated that Africa, alone makes up to about 35 per cent of the airline’s total revenue. He also said that since July, when the airline started its operation in Ghana everything that has happened calls for a celebration. In other words, so far so good.
