Acting in line with its plans over the past few months, Air Pacific has stepped into one of its final milestones in transforming into a nationally endorsed flag carrier- Fiji Airways. Air Pacific was initially Fiji Airways 60 years ago, back in 1951. The efforts have been made consonant with the fact that the tourist hotspot should make airwaves with its national carrier going under a patriotic theme.
The logo has been unveiled by Pacific Airlines’ executive director David Pflieger, here at Nadi’s Sheraton Hotel. Further plans have revealed that the interior designing and décor will also be made in theme with Fiji’s cultural traits, and will be well-inculcated in the new arrivals of Air Pacific’s revised fleet. The new fleet is expected to induct three new Airbus A330-200 aircraft over 2013.
The airlines took over a unique perspective by contracting a revered Fijian local artist, Makereta Matmosi. The delighted Fijian referred to the Masi artwork as a symbol of Fijian unity, with the intricate flower petals and motifs representing the integration of ethnicities and tribes belonging to the country’s 333 islands.
The basic murky brown color tone reflects the clay soil dyes and the bark of Masi tree used in native fabrics worn by Fijians. Cultural values of community life are taken as a proud heritage exhibited by Fiji to the global tourism industry. Rebranding and theme details will further be unveiled on the 10th of October, regarded to the nation as Fiji day to mark the country’s independence gained from colonial British settlement.
