The flag carrier and the proud operator of the ‘only’ flights to Harare, from London, Air Zimbabwe (UM) is the first choice airline for those in a hurry to land in their hometown. However, since the past few years the carrier’s twice-weekly schedule, overbooked flights and raising the price due to increased demand have been somewhat unfavourable to the customers. The limited number of economy seats, and further limited number of cheap flight fares in economy, on a twice-weekly flight, have affected last minute reservation seekers and constrained the freedom of choice. But, as summer holiday ‘peak season’ is approaching Air Zimbabwe has begun to fix the odds.
The airline has announced the launch of its third flights that will increase its London-Harare route frequency from two flights to three flights a week and also, will add another good deal of economy seats for those seeking cheap flight fares with Air Zimbabwe.
This new flight is planned to be scheduled for evening departure from London Gatwick Airport, Air Zimbabwe’s UK hub and such timings will be ideal for those flying from another airport to catch their International flight departing from Gatwick. Air Zimbabwe’s General Manager for Europe, Mr David Mwenga has cited the launch dates of this flight to be 01st of April 2011. The return flights will also be timed for evening departure from Harare International Airport Zimbabwe every Saturday.
Mr. Mwenga further added that Air Zimbabwe, for being the only direct flight between London and Harare at the moment is ‘the airline of convenience’. He emphasized that having three flights between Harare and London gives travellers more flexibility and also, the airline offers sufficient free baggage allowance i.e., 46 kilos in the economy and 64 kilos in Business class in addition to the standard hand carry.
The new schedule, to be launched in April will also facilitate holidaymakers in reserving their onward connecting flights between Harare and Victoria Falls or Harare and flights to Bulawayo without going through the trouble of an overnight stopover in the Zimbabwean capital.
The airline said, that its increasing flights between London and Zimbabwe in response to rising numbers of travellers. In recent years, after the political stability is restored in the country, Zimbabwe has become a tough competitor in African Travel and Tourism market by having an easy access to neighbouring Victoria Falls, the natural wonder of the world and it’s outstanding game reserves where African wildlife can be seen flourishing. Also, the country’s affordable accommodations, living expense and cheap flight fares give it more edge than other African Safari destinations.
