Turkish Airlines flight TK15, which had undergone a routine take-off for Sao Paulo, had to be diverted enroute to land at Casablanca. Reports confirm that airline staff received a note from the lavatory which included the word ‘bomb’. Following standard safety procedure and safety protocol, the aircraft, a Boeing 777 having 250 passengers and 6 crew members onboard, made headway to the nearest airport at the time.
The flight safely landed at Casablanca’s Mohammed V International airport, whose operations had been halted to clear the landing of the flight. The airport then resumed its flight operations under routine while the aircraft is being searched for presence of any explosive material. The investigation regarding the threat is also underway.
This has been the second Turkish Airlines’ flight to get disrupted owing to a bomb hoax on board the flight. This Sunday alone, the flight, TK52, which flies to Tokyo, had to be landed back at the airline hub of Attaturk International Airport shortly after take-off after the airline staff got hold of a note stuck at the back of the door of a lavatory onboard.
The note, reading “C4 Cargo” indicated that C4 plastic explosives had been rigged in the cargo hold of the aircraft. After a thorough search, it was revealed that the threat turned out to be a hoax.
