The numbers are in and they are a shocker. Qantas has reported that the Perth to London direct flight is now the “highest rated service” the company has ever operated. The customers “love it” and the tickets are being sold like hot cakes. The airplanes are at an average 92 percent full, which is unprecedented for a flight operation that has just recently been introduced in March.
The 14,500-kilometre journey was at first a cause for concern since the flight lasted for 17 hours and passengers sought connecting flights to reduce the strain of travel. But since the flights have been reaching their destinations in 15 hours and 45 minutes, thanks to favourable winds, the direct flight has started to appear friendlier for customers and made many fans. This has escalated the demand for these direct flights as the holidays approach in December. Perth city, on the other hand, loves the attention. The usually distant city in Western Australia is now visited by most travellers coming from London. Qantas reported that 90 percent of the travellers disembark to visit the city instead of taking a flight onwards to Melbourne or Sydney.
With this amazing performance shown by the London to Perth direct flight, Qantas is angling to grip its customer’s attention for a Sydney to London direct flight. Project Sunrise is an initiative by Qantas to offer a direct flight between Sydney and London by the year 2022 and the company is already in talks with Boeing and Airbus.
