Emirates, on May 31st, 2012, circulated a press release about suspension of flights to cape town & FRO CAPETOWN (CPT), South Africa. This is only a temporary suspension and it is likely that the airline shall resume operations in near future. The airline said that it regrets the action which is a result of operational reasons. The Cape Town flight numbers EK772 / EK 773 shall no longer be operational with effect from 1st of September until the 30th of November this year. The airliner has assured that passengers shall be accommodated on alternative flights to neighbouring airports. It has advised travel agents to RE-PROTECT all ticketed passengers travelling to/from Cape Town.

The airline shall communicate all booking reference numbers (PNR’s) affected by this change to travel agents shortly for further action. Passengers must get their tickets RE-VALIDATED from their agents or airline. The airline can be contacted on 01625-445-288 for re-validation of an E-ticket to the new flights/dates. Passengers must remember to obtain new itinerary to the re-routed nearest airport of their new flights/dates.
Passengers can book overnight accommodation in DUBAI free of cost for only the departure journey, this is applicable to only the flights leaving from GLASGOW / NEWCASTLE TO CAPE TOWN. All passengers, whose ticket issuance date is on/before 31st of May for any class of seat, will be provided with a stopover in Dubai on the outbound leg of their journey from Glasgow and Newcastle to Cape Town. Passengers must ensure that their Travel agents are aware of their intention to book this stopover as it is mandatory to book this stopover with EK Reservations at least 10 days prior to departure for all eligible ticketed bookings.
The airline has not guaranteed this for bookings made within 10 days of departure, therefore, passengers should keep this in mind while requesting the same to their agents. These booked STOPOVER vouchers can be collected on departure from the Emirates Airport Ticket Desk. This is not applicable to un-ticketed bookings and any future bookings, regular stopover policy applies.
In case passengers do not wish to continue with the flights or do not want an alternative, can opt for a full refund as well. This may involve administrative fees for the travel agents.
