Ethiopian Airlines, the national flag carrier for Ethiopia, has recently ordered 20 Boeing 737 MAX Planes with the intention of expanding its fleet and reaching its targeted goal of becoming the leading African airline carrier. The order is a step towards achieving the airline’s 15-year strategic plan, ‘Vision 2025’ that seeks to increase the number of its yearly passengers to 18 million. The achievement of this target will culminate the airline in taking the lead in Africa’s aviation industry.
Max 737 aircraft are equipped with all the latest technology and is one of the leading single-aisle aircraft being used by all successful airlines. The intention to expand the fleet by Ethiopian Airlines will prove to be a step further in not only expanding the airline’s fleet but also introduce more efficient airliners.
The 737 MAX is the fourth generation of Boeing’s popular 737. These aircraft are stated to be 14 per cent more fuel-efficient with the introduction of a larger and more fuel-efficient engine than the previous aircraft that were introduced in this line. The MAX 737 are also 20 per cent better in performance than the original next-generation 737s, thereby providing the passengers of Ethiopian Airlines greater comfort and reliability. The order is said to bring about a cost of more than $2.1 billion.
Ethiopian Airlines has over the years continued to persistently work towards the achievement of its stated goals and continues to do so to date. The airline also prides in winning the prestigious title for the “Best Airline in Africa” for the second time in line at the APEX 2014 EXPO.
