It has come to our attention that Lufthansa has cancelled as many a hundred flights as of today, Friday 7th September 2012. These cancellations have come about as a result of all flight attendants walking off their jobs as part of a strike against Germany’s largest airline; the Lufthansa. This action was started at midnight on Thursday against the airline which aims to compete against the budget cuts and the Persian Gulf airlines which are government owned.
The strike was announced by the ‘Independent Flight Attendants Organization (UFO). The union basically objects to high-profit goals which result in low pays for new employees and only gradual pay increases. It has shown its concern regarding shifting employees to lower contracts and achieving high profits at the expense of lower salaries. However now, it seems likely that both sides may be prepared to negotiate and come to a viable agreement that suits both the parties at hand.
The flight cancellations have been labelled as the ‘biggest service disruption from a strike’ since 2010 which was a result of a strike by the pilots. It is undoubted that this strike which is intended to continue for 24 hours has caused the airline grave troubles and the passengers an awful lot of inconvenience which has resulted in a great amount of pressure on the authorities at concern to stabilize the situation as soon as possible.
The Lufthansa Airline is trying its best to minimize the grave impact on its customers and warns them with great regret to anticipate unscheduled delays and cancellations unless the problems at hand are fixed. Lists of cancelled and delayed flights will be posted frequently and the customers are requested to obtain information regarding their flights before they start to travel towards the airport.
Although the spokesperson of the Lufthansa Airline has refused to acknowledge any involvement of a mediator, there have been negotiations and these are to be continued until a viable solution has been formulated.
