Officials for Kuwait Airways, the national airline of Kuwait, are reported to be in the quest of striking a deal for the order of 10 Boeing 777 jetliners. The directive for the order with the Boeing officials has already been issued by the KAC Board of Directives as per the initiation of the Kuwaiti government. Discussions regarding details of the technical and any remaining legal matters are said to be commencing shortly.
The order is made in an attempt to update Kuwait Airways aging fleet considering that the last update to its fleet was made in the year 1990. The airline also seeks to keep its fleet updated given the surge in competition from other GCC airlines brought about with the introduction of new generation of aircrafts. Kuwait Airways was feeling the lag and hence the subsequent order.
The order is scheduled to be delivered between 2019 and 2020. It is said to have sparked a controversy amidst the segments of the Kuwaiti elite given that the airline had already placed an order for 25 air bus aircrafts in the month of February this year.
However, in a recent argument it was stated that this airbus order is said to be complimenting the recent order of Boeing aircrafts being ordered. Along with the 777s, the order includes 10 A350-900s, 15 A320 neos , 7 A320s and 5 A330s, all made in an attempt to facilitate the growth of the company. The huge outcry made by the various elite segments is also understandable given the company reported to have incurred losses due to the high rate of labor costs.
