What are the new rules for going abroad?

Transport Secretary Grant Shapps was happy to announce a major overhaul to England’s international travel rules as the UK is about to scrape the traffic light system, for a newer, clearer travel system: red-list and the rest of the world, from the 4th of October 2021. 

What happens to Green and Amber Lists?

From the 4th of October, the green and amber lists will be merged into a single list. For Those who have done there vaccination fully now will not have to take the covid test before coming back to England from one of these countries . You will still have to take a PCR test two days after arrival, but this will be replaced by a cheaper and simpler lateral flow test by the end of October. London’s Gatwick airport will be offering the cheapest lateral flow tests. Full vaccinations from a further 17 countries and territories including Japan and Singapore will now be recognized. Scotland would drop the traffic light system but would not follow England in removing the pre-departure test, so if you are returning to Scotland you will be required to get a pre-departure COVID PCR test. All passengers are required to fill in a passenger locator form ahead of their travel. 

What if someone is not fully vaccinated?

Passengers who aren’t recognized as being fully vaccinated with authorized vaccines and certificates under England’s international travel rules will need to take a pre-departure test, along with a PCR test on days two and eight after arriving, and a 10 days self-isolation. You may opt for a test to release if you want to shorten your isolation period.

Are there any changes made to the red-list?

There are no relaxations that are being announced or under consideration at the moment if you are returning from a red-listed country. You still need to quarantine for 11 nights in a quarantine hotel at a cost of £2285.00. The number of destinations in red list will be reduced gradually.
