Air operators are sure to hit the roof when it comes to possibilities for amenities on board. These days Etihad Airways get the showup and running with live televised broadcasts made available mid-flight for its distinguished passengers. Making current affairs as the first of its priorities for live television, the airline has linked up with some of the biggest names of news networks. Sky News Arabia, BBC Arabic, CNBC, NHK World, Euro News, Sports 24 and BBC World News will all be covered live for the latest news telecasts via satellite.
Even though wi-fi connectivity is made available which can be utilized by RSS news feeds as well as official websites online, the vast majority still clings to the ‘conventional’ means of checking upon news bulletins, where journalists and reporters give their feedback and viewpoints in their own reports. The broadcasts will give a whole new natural feel to the entertainment options provided on board.
A lot of attention of the new development is being showered upon international sporting events lately, with live fixtures to save passengers from missing their favourite sports. The very first event chosen to kick start the live telecast service was the home-based Etihad Airways Formula 1 Grand Prix, held at the new Yas Marina circuit. Other races which followed up suit were the U.S and the Brazilian Grand Prix, respectively.
Next up are football fans that would never need to worry for their match fixtures clashing in with their flight schedules. The German Bundesliga along with the English Premier League is slated to be probably among the next releases under the live TV stream program. Other sports include the ATP world tour, Ryder Cup Golf, Euro League basketball and the Winter Olympics.
The live telecasts will be made via the in-flight entertainment systems already installed along the seats, which means most of the classes will have access to the new service. For the time being, 21 airliners have had the live telecast service installed among their cabins. By the end of next year, the number will have expanded to 37 wide-body aircraft, along with further channels in the pipeline to be considered for the program.
