With the announcement and authorization of the new law permitting same-sex marriages, New Zealand has seen a new high with many same-sex couples being treated with extravagant and loving weddings! One such lucky couple was Lynley Bendall and Ally Wanikau from Auckland who was blessed with an extravagant and yet a very homey ambience that was carefully prepared in a decked out plane of Air New Zealand after winning a competition. Lynley Bendall and Ally Wanikau are amongst the first to tie the knot after New Zealand became the first country in the Asia-pacific region to legalize same-sex marriages. Many other hopefuls and love-struck lovers are due to the married following the couple from Auckland.

Love was in the air when the love-struck Lynley Bendall and Ally Wanikau, the two child care workers who have been together for almost 13 years, were given a very exotic and yet very intimate wedding in a beautifully decorated decked out plane of Air New Zealand. With the colour purple being the themed colour that led the guests to the plane that was due to conduct the first same-sex marriage and that too in the skies! So love was authorized as the two lovebirds carried out the legalized marriage proceedings as the plane took off from Queenstown to Auckland.

Traditions were carefully followed with a pretty flower girl showering the plane’s aisle with scented petals as she walked through the alley between the plane’s seats. To make the wedding more intimate, the proceedings were carried out in the presence of family and friends who were there to show their support and excitement at Lynley Bendall and Ally Wanikau finally getting eloped. To further add the perfect cherry on top to this exotic gathering, the couple was wed in the presence of the television celebrity and a huge advocator of same-sex marriage, Jesse Tyler Ferguson from the US television series Modern Family.

Also amongst the first to marry were the winners of a radio competition, Tash Vitali and Melissa Ray from Auckland. Many other hopefuls are scheduled to be married under this new amended marriage act of New Zealand. Same-sex couples from Australia will also be travelling to neighbouring New Zealand to tie the knot since such same-sex marriages have not been legalized in Australia yet.
