The Australian Flying Kangaroo, Qantas Airline (QF) is making headlines yet again when today cheap flights to Melbourne experienced cabin depressurization. Although, if it was any other airline, this could have been a very minor event and would have gotten only a little space in the Aviation news, however, since Qantas is already struggling to wipe off the last year’s stigma to its reputation at hand of midair engine troubles, the carrier is said to have been affected badly from this “non emergency” situation.
The airline has confirmed that the aircraft’s air conditioning is responsible today when Qantas flight QF670 from Adelaide to Melbourne took a rapid descent forced by low cabin pressure. The flight’s number QF670 took off from Adelaide at 06:10 am local times and halfway to Melbourne, the plane dived to 26,000 feet (8000 meters) that resulted in sudden panic among passengers. Oxygen masks were deployed as a precaution, however, a low altitude is said to be necessary to check on any engine trouble and control it.
According to ABC news, a Qantas spokeswoman has verified that the aircraft experienced depressurization in the cabin. However, the flight landed without incident and no medical assistance was required for any passengers. Also, please note in the last year incidents as well, that ended in Qantas grounding its entire A380 fleet, no major damage occurs of course, other than that to the airline’s decades of prestige.
The head of the school of Aviation at the University of New South Wales Australia, Professor Jason Middleton has also defined this incident as a ‘non-emergency situation’ and stated that there was never any risk to the passengers.
He added: “This is not an emergency in the sense that anyone’s life was ever at risk, a very standard procedure to an airport,” Also, he said “It’s not an unsafe operation at all – to get aeroplanes that quite comfortably fly at 10,000 feet to proceed to their destination and at that location the problems can be checked out.”
Qantas Airline (QF) offers direct flights to Sydney and many other destinations in Australia. It is the prime carrier of the country, Australia. Although, Qantas had a shaky start of the year 2011 but considering the high standard of services and how seriously the carrier works on bringing out the best, getting into details of any unpleasant occurrence and eliminating any problem from its root are the virtues that keep customers loyal to Qantas.
