The steady and fast growing airline, Qatar Airways is among the few carriers adding new flight routes in their networks this year. The reason being a decrease in demand and an unstable market, many airlines have put a full stop to their route expansion. Since the end of the year 2010, all International airlines have had a tough time coping with flights cancellations, delays and full ticket refunds imposed by adverse weather conditions, natural catastrophe, cabin crew strikers and political rebellions. While engine defects and mid-air crises have also proven to be affecting airlines annual revenue. However, Qatar and a few others still managed to add on more destinations in their schedules rather than cutting the existing ones.
Qatar Airways is the world’s first five star ranked airline. The carrier holds a strong presence in the UK, Africa, Asia and the Middle East. It most prominent flight routes in terms of popularity include flights to Johannesburg, Maldives, Seychelles, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Nairobi, Singapore, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and its hub is located in Doha.
The most recent expansion in Qatar’s route is its new flights to Kolkata, India scheduled to start from midyear 2011. This has raised Qatar’s flight capacity in India to 95 services per week. This new flight service to India will start from July 27, 2011.
Another new route planned to be launched in September this year, is Qatar’s flights to Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria. The airline has stated to start these flight operations from September 14, 2011 and operate four times a week on this route.
Lastly, Qatar’s flights to Oslo, the capital of Norway are another great addition anticipated this year. The airline has given the date October 05, 2011 as the launch date of this route. Qatar will fly five flights a well on this route.
Qatar Airways flies from London Heathrow Airport (LHR) and Manchester Airports in the UK. Its route involves going via Doha, the capital city of Qatar. There is a short stopover in Doha followed shortly by the onward flights operated by Qatar Airways. Qatar is considered to be a strong competitor of Emirates Airline especially for its exquisite Business Class and Premium Economy luxury flights.
