South America is a famous tourist destination and every year thousands of tourists and travelers visit this are to enjoy some of the nature’s best scenic views, some of unique cultures and traditions and some of the loveliest beaches. Ecuador is a country in South America; this country has some of the very unique features attracting tourists from every corner of the world including historic sites, marvelous architecture, vibrant culture, extreme biodiversity and some of the most beautiful cities.
“San Francisco de Quito” is the Capital of Ecuador; the city is commonly called Quito. The city is located in the Guayallabamba river basins in the north central Ecuador. Quito is the center of all major political, economic and cultural activities in the country and also plays a vital role in the economy of the nation. The city is home to many historic sites, buildings and locations and is also home to several Museums and many parks. This city is home to more than 20 universities including international universities.
This city also hosts one of the busiest Airports in the country named Mariscal Sucre International Airport. This airport is located about ten kilometers north of the city’s center. This airport has long runways and is capable of dealing with many of the larger aircrafts. This airport deals with cargo flights as well as passenger flights. Many international airlines have daily flights from this airport to many destinations world wide including Madrid, Houston, Bogotá, Rio de Janeiro, New York, and Amsterdam. This airport receives most of the international as well as domestic flights to Quito.
There are many attractions offered by this city including many parks like Parque Metropolitano Guanguiltagua, located in the northern Quito this park is the largest urban park in South America. Parque La Carolina is another beautiful park located right in the center of the main business area. El Ejido is the third largest park in the city. La Alameda is also a famous park and is well known for many impressive monuments. This park is also well reputed for the sale of handicrafts and paintings sold by the locals every Saturdays and Sunday.
Museo de la Ciudad is a museum dedicated to the history of the city. Another museum housing 5 different displays from different era is the Museo Nacional del Banco Central del Ecuador. Museo Casa de Sucre is also a famous museum. In the middle west of the city there is a most popular tourist spot known as the El Panecillo hill. The monument of Virgin Mary is located on top of that mountain and is a postcard icon of the city.
