The news had taken the aviation world by a storm when the spokesperson for the British Airways announced that the city of Charleston in South Carolina would be getting a direct flight service from London, by the British Airways. The crowds at the announcement ceremony gave a standing ovation when the news was revealed. Direct access to London means that the city is about to get connected to the world in a significant way, bringing tourism and capital to the state.
Charleston International Airport is only the 64th busiest international airport in the United States and this move by British Airways to land a direct flight from London, from April next year, is a game changer. British Airways looks to increase its influence in the air over the United States. By having a direct flight to Charleston, British Airways aims to attract the many passengers in the East and South of the USA that have to hop many connecting flights to get in and out of the country.
British Airways would be starting this service on the 4th of April, 2019 and will continue this service till October 24th, 2019, for now. The initial plans have a British Airways aeroplane touching down at Charleston international on Thursdays and Saturdays, but if there is a fantastic response, these flights can be operated for at least five times a week. The direct flight from London would be the first transatlantic flight to Charleston in years.
The Governor of the State of South Carolina was very excited to be a part of this development. “We would have to spend a lot of money”, Campbell said to the media, indicating to the USD 9 million that has been set aside to upgrade Charleston Airport, to withstand the immense traffic that would be coming to its runway next year. The people of Charleston realise that this move by British Airways will bring business to the American South East and will provide access to London and the greater beyond.
Special introductory prices have been set for a hand full of flights offered from 4th to 10th April, from 22nd April to 9th May, and then from 30th September to 24th October 2019. Round trip tickets to Charleston from London would only be for £832 on these days. So plan and roam the Carolinas on the cheap by travelling British Airways’ new direct flight to the Holy city of South Carolina.
