Virgin Atlantic announces direct flights to Pakistan from United Kingdom starting in December 2020. The new flight route has sparked excitement at a crucial time when airlines are already operating at their reduced capacities due to COVID-19. There will be three weekly flights from London Heathrow to Islamabad and four weekly flights to Lahore. Similarly, Virgin Atlantic will also serve flights from Manchester to Islamabad and Lahore.
Virgin’s chief commercial officer Juha Jarvinen said:
Pakistan is an extremely exciting opportunity for us – it boasts one of the largest foreign-born populations in both the UK and the US and, as people start to travel to visit loved ones, we’re anticipating the demand to visit friends and relatives will increase post COVID-19.
Virgin Atlantic flights to Pakistan will go on sale in September which is subject to regulatory approvals. This week the airline also announced its COVID-19 insurance cover for all existing and new bookings, traveling from August 24, 2020, up until March 31, 2021.
British Airways and Pakistan International Airlines are operating direct flight service from United Kingdom to Pakistan. PIA flights are currently banned from airspace of European Union and UK, although PIA has temporarily chartered an aircraft from Portuguese firm to continue flights to UK.
