Your exciting holidays have officially moved one step closer to normal with the announcement of a new quarantine rule. The UK has implemented a new “test to release” scheme under which all travellers arriving in the UK can take a COVID test at their own expense on fifth day. Negative RT-PCR test will ultimately set the holidaymakers free to enjoy their trip from sixth day of arrival.
It is, indeed, a much-needed push for the revival of the travel industry.
When does it start?
The new quarantine rules are applicable after 15 December.
How do I take a test?
You can find the list of government-approved labs on gov.uk. All travellers are required to book a test before returning to the UK and fill out the test booking details in passenger locator form.
However, your passenger locator form resubmission is needed if you book a test on arrival.
Covid-19 test providers can take up to 24 hours to declare the results; it means your quarantine period can end at day six of your arrival.
How much do the tests cost?
The COVID-19 test is likely to cost around 65 GBP to 120 GBP. Moreover, some airlines may also subsidize the cost of tests. If you are travelling to the UK any time soon, please keep checking our social media channels Facebook, Instagram and Twitter for more updates.
The new COVID-19 test scheme is only applicable to passengers arriving in England. Other holidaymakers in Wales, Scotland and Ireland will have to self-isolate for two weeks.
