Located in the North Island of New Zealand is a major and most populous city known as Auckland. This city was ranked 4th in the 2010 Mercer Quality of Living Survey and is also classified as an Alpha World City in the World Cities Study Groups inventory by Loughborough University. Auckland lies on the Auckland Volcanic Field that has about 50 volcanoes; there are about 14 large lava tubes that run from the volcanoes down into the sea. Auckland has a very distinctive culture although most of the inhabitants claim to be European. Auckland also has the largest Polynesian population than any other city in the world.
Private vehicles are the main form of transportation in the city resulting in traffic congestion during the peak time. Bus service, ferries and trains are the least used mode in the city for public transportation. However Auckland’s ports are the largest of the country playing a major role in the imports and exports of the country, Auckland’s port is also a major cruise ship destination bringing tourists from most parts of the world towards this small paradise. A few small airports serve Auckland, Auckland Airport is the main airport serving for most of the flights to Auckland, and other airports mainly deal with chartered flights and small aircrafts.
The city is home to several best hotels and restaurants to fulfill the drinking and dining needs of tourists from many parts of the world. Wide range of hotels and restaurants gives you the choice to choose the one that suits your budget. Many shopping centers and market place are also located on the main streets of the city and the prices of different products are relatively less than the prices in other major cities of the world.
Some of the most visited places and buildings include Harbour Bridge, Aotea Square, Auckland Town Hall, Auckland Civic Theater, Auckland War Memorial Museum and Eden Park.
Auckland is also nicknamed as “City of Sails” as hundreds of yachts are often seen spread around the harbor. The city has a great repute because of its passionate nightlife especially Viaduct Basin is well known for nightlife activities with many Nightclubs, Bars and Restaurants offering different types of music, dance and live performances of local and international performers.
