Next to Josephine falls where the water cascades down 80 feet – 25 meters you will find a stunning view of the majestic mountains. This spot is every nature photographer or artist’s dream come true. With plenty of wildlife around and the occasional brown bear, who wouldn’t want to capture this amazing scenery. Get in on the trail system and decide on what you want to do. ATV’s are available for rent and you can ride on specific trails divided for novice and tougher trails for more experienced drivers. The same is the case for the mountain bike and hiking trails.
For Extreme Mountain biking experiences the Elk River Valley its self is a beautiful and challenging ride but there are many more challenging trails such as:
Josephine Falls: This is a 2.3km hike, labeled as moderate in terms of difficulty. You get to see the magnificent Josephine water fall and hike down the steep canyon.
Lily Lake Trail: About 2.7km of homeland to wetland birds and several marshy areas. Also moderate in difficulty level and provides a good view of big game early in the morning.
Lost Lake Trail: This provides a 4.5km vigorous hike or mountain bike ride through the stands of lodge pole pine right down to an unnamed stocked lake that even has two docks for fishing.
Bare Hill Lookout: Only a 1km hike that will give you the most breathtaking panoramic views of Elkford and of the surrounding mountains. Also the best spot for landscape photographers.
If you are into camping then the Elkford Municipal Campground offers over 77 different campsites with everything from showers, free firewood, fire pits, picnic tables, pit toilets and a cookhouse. As far as skiing is concerned in the winters you will have to travel up to the topmost slopes to access the trails running along Boivin Creek. There are 2 ski cabins available for resting and warming up that serve fresh hot cocoa or any other beverage of choice. Discover over 400km of trials available for snowmobiling just beware of the moose or deer crossings or you’re in for trouble!
