Copper Canyon is a group of canyons formed by six rivers flowing down from the western side of the Sierra Terahumara region in the State of Chihuahua, Mexico. All of these six rivers merge into Rio Fuerte and fall into the sea of Cortez. These canyons are larger and some portions are even deeper than the Great Canyon.

The name Copper Canyon was given to these canyons due to the color of the walls which is like copper green and that’s where these canyons got their name. Sierra Terahumara region is very rich in flora and fauna this region is home to some two hundred types of Oak trees, about twenty-three different types of Pine and Mexican Douglas-fir trees. These areas are also home to many animal species like the Mexican wolves and Cougars but due to deforestation these animal species are endangered.

Mexico has developed a Copper Canyon Park to promote and showcase this remote area. There are many ways to explore these canyons such as driving, biking, hiking, and horseback riding no matter what mean of transport you use to reach the canyons its fun and adventure.
