Tanzania is not all about the lions, leopards and zebras though they are a major attraction of the country; it is also famous for the continent’s highest peak and a beautiful national park where the peak is situated. Since its opening in 1977, the Kilimanjaro Park has become the greatest attraction of Tanzania even surpassing the famous Serengeti.
You will be arriving at the capital of the country Dar es Salaam; you can easily find a direct flight to Dar es Salaam with many European and African airlines. British Airways, KLM and Air France frequently fly to Dar. If you’ll be flying from within Africa then a cheap flight to Dar es Salaam can be booked with Kenya Airways, South African Airways and Ethiopian Airlines.

The 5896 meters high Mt. Kilimanjaro is located in the heart of the park and is considered as one of the must-see places of Africa along with Victoria Falls and Table Mountain. The mountain starts rising from the low farmlands of Tanzania and has a lush rainforest in its middle, while the top of the mountain is covered with snow. Looking at the mountain from a short distance is truly a mesmerizing experience.
The park is huge and you can access the park from three places depending upon what activities you have planned for your stay at the park. Trekking the mountain is one of the favourite activities of most visitors here, but if you think you are physically (and financially) strong enough then you may climb to the summit of the mountain. Although there is no need of using ropes for climbing the peak it is still an exhausting and costly experience. You can trek the lower and middle part of the mountain instead.
You will find some unique species of buffalos and baboons in the Rainforest of Kilimanjaro, along with the leopards that roam the mountain. This will be a good opportunity for you to observe the culture of the local tribes that live on and around the mountain. They are friendly people and always welcome the tourists.
There are a number of ways you can arrange your accommodation in the park, you can stay at one of the few resorts in the park, camp out in the wilderness or even stay with the locals. To do the justice with the beauty of this place it is highly recommended that you stay at least for a couple of days at Kilimanjaro.
