Kandy Lake is one of the best-loved attractions of this fabulous city that was constructed by royal king, Kandyan Empire and it is totally manmade. The natives have named it Kiri Muhuda and the lake also houses an island, in its heart. The lake offers you plenty of opportunities for relaxation and calmness- you can opt for a peaceful walk and stroll by the side of the lake and can also enjoy the boat sails.
The lake is considered to contain holy water and it is forbidden to swim in its sacred enclosure. Another popular site of Kandy is the Temple of the Golden Tooth which is commonly called as Sri Dalada Maligawa and it contains the Lord Buddha’s tooth relic but it can only be seen once in every 6 years. Its history dates back to 16th century and that sacred tooth has been placed in Chedi that is completely made up of gold.
