Ko Samui the third largest island of Thailand has all the scenic beauty that you will expect in a tropical paradise. With palm-fringed, bone white and sandy beaches and lush green surroundings, it provides such a relaxing atmosphere that a tourist that once visit this gorgeous island dreams of returning to it again. While the islands of Phuket and Krabi have been the main recipients of tourist’s traffic in the last two decades things are fast changing. With Ko Samui making a name for itself not just for its scenic beauty but also for the lively nightlife of the island, it’s just a matter of time when it will be the premier tourism destination in Thailand.
The reason for which Ko Samui lagged behind in the tourism industry of Thailand was the difficulty of getting to the island as the only way to get there was by taking a ferry from the mainland. But now Ko Samui has its own airport which is well connected with the capital, Phuket and Krabi and there are a few airlines that even fly direct flights to Ko Samui. But if you are flying from abroad then the better option will be to take a cheap flight to Bangkok and then get a connecting flight to Ko Samui or if you are still interested in the old fashioned way then there are still ferries available on the mainland to take you to Ko Samui. The island used to be one of the cheapest travel destinations of Bangkok but following the classic rule of supply and demand the recent increase in the tourist traffic has resulted in increased prices for hotels and resorts.
The biggest attraction of the island is its beaches, the most famous and the busiest of them all is the gorgeous Chaweng beach. This beautiful beach has the softest and the whitest sand that you will ever find but the real reason why tourists head there is its lively nightlife. You will find quite a few bars and nightclubs in the Chaweng that are always flocked by the tourists. The only problem with Chaweng is the high price tag attached to the accommodation facilities plus if you are looking for solitude then there are not many places on this busy beach for that. Instead, you can head to Lamai which is as beautiful as Chaweng with an added advantage of much more lush surroundings and some quality cafes and nightclubs as well. If you are looking for deserted places to relax or get a tan then you will find plenty of them in Lamai.
Another famous beach of Ko Samui is Cheong Mon with sandy beaches and picture perfect surroundings. This beach is particularly popular with the tourists that are interested in water sports as the resorts of Cheong Mon provide the equipment for scuba diving, snorkelling, surfing and paragliding. The warm waters of Ko Samui are perfect for swimming and even better for scuba diving as they are rich in marine life.
