If you make a list of the family destinations in the world, Orlando will always be in the top three positions with its theme parks and other family entertainment facilities. Although the places like Disney world will always be the real reason for your arrival in the city, but Orlando has a lot more to offer to enhance your family entertainment experience in the city. The Lake Eola in the down town Orlando is the premier family spot of the city where the families gather to enjoy its beautiful settings and rest in the shades of the trees on its banks on a hot summer day.
The lake built in 1888 on an 80ft sinkhole has gone through a number of transformation before coming to its present shape. The area around the lake was first made into the zoo of the Orlando city but later on, was converted into a race track. But in the 90’s it was decided by the city authorities to make it a place where families of Orlando can get together and enjoy a good quality family time. Your main reason for taking a cheap flight to Orlando will most probably be the theme parks of the city but an afternoon spent along the Eola Lake will surely be a memorable one. A tour to the lake is also recommended because of its proximity to the downtown of Orlando where you will find the cheapest of the city’s hotels, and most of the tourists prefer the area for their stay in the city.
The lake stretches on an area of 23 acres and there is an approximately 1-mile sidewalk around the lake which is well maintained and is usually flocked with the pedestrians in the afternoon. The lake is also famous for its restaurants in the Eola Park area which are mostly open air and offer an awesome dining experience. The park also includes a child play area that entertains kids with its rides and makes Eola Park a complete family entertainment spot. The best experience is provided to you when you arrive at the lake in the evening as the fountain in the centre of the lake changes colour offering a gorgeous light show spectacle. This “Centennial Fountain” was installed in 1957 for a cost of 350000 US dollars and has become the major attraction of the lake. The light show starts at 8 PM in the evening and goes on for the whole night.
The Eola Park is the location of a few major annual events of Orlando like the Spin City Classic a cycling race that is conducted in the streets around the park and is held in the month of March. It is also the center of the 4th of July celebrations in the city which also includes some spectacular fireworks. To provide the icing over the cake of your memorable evening in the Park Eola you should head to Eola Movie Theater in the northern side of the park where the shows start at 9 pm.
