A vacation in Africa by no doubt is always a fulfilling experience but also one that exhausts the rookie tourists. The reasons are the destinations that require a tourist to be in a very good physical condition and also the difficulty of finding suitable hotels and resorts in most of the African countries. So if you ask an experienced traveller what country he or she will recommend for a new tourist then most of them will reply Malawi.
The reason is the ease with which you can get there and the numbers of hotels and resorts in the country that provide world-class facilities at a very affordable price. Another great attraction is the friendliness of the locals who are always ready to help the tourists in whatever way they can. If you couple all this with the scenic beauty and stunning landscape of Malawi then you get your self a travel destination that you can use for getting your first taste of the African continent.
Malawi has one of Africa’s lowest crime rates so it is quite safe for the backpackers who can explore this gorgeous country on there own. You will first have to take a cheap flight to Lilongwe the capital of Malawi which has enough hotels in itself for you to relax in and acclimatize your self with the African weather. The biggest tourist attraction of Malawi is gigantic “Lake of Stars” a huge reservoir of water that stretches for 500 km separating Malawi from Mozambique and Tanzania in the east. Small traditional fishing villages that are lying around the lake are a perfect place for exploring the culture and lifestyle of Malawi. You can take a bus or hire a car from Lilongwe to take you to the vicinity of the lake from which you can start trekking in the surrounding mountains and visit different villages along the banks of the lake.
The lake is rich with marine life with more than 500 different species of fish living in its fresh waters that are the main source of income for the villagers living along the lake. There a number of resorts in the area that caters to all kind of tourists ranging from the ones looking for luxury to the ones that are travelling on a budget. If you are in Africa to take in some sun rays then Malawi can offer its bright sun to tan you while you lay on the banks of the lake. There are plenty of water sports that you can indulge in the lake like sports fishing and kayaking.
But Malawi is not all about this lake you can find plenty of other attractions as well. If you are interested in an awesome hiking experience then head to the beautiful Nyika National Park with magnificent peaks and lush grasslands that provide the best hiking and trekking routes of Africa. For more experienced hikers Malawi has its stunning Mt Mulanje which will need quite an exhausting hike for reaching its summit but if you don’t think that you are physically up to this then you can always trek in the surrounding mountains that are far less challenging.
