Asbyrgi Canyon, Iceland:
The formation of this canyon is explained by a myth about the horse of a Norse god which when touched the earth, slices the 300 feet tall cliff which resulted in this massive structure. The scientific explanation suggests that it was formed due to the glacial flooding around 3000 to 10,000 years ago. The area around the canyon is green and scenic and when you stand atop the cliff, you will be able to see the horse shoe shape canyon.
Salar de Uyuni, Bolivia:
This is a prehistoric lake in Bolivia which dried around 30,000 years ago. After the drying on the lake, the land left is marked with endless hexagonal tiles that stretch as far as you can see. This is world’s largest salt flat and local miners’ yield up to 25,000 tons of salt from there each year. There is a hotel near this amazing place called the Palacio de Sal and it is made up entirely of salt blocks and has 16 rooms.
Travertine Pools, Pamukkale, Turkey:
This place in Turkey is famous for its healing abilities since thousands of years. People come there even today from around the world to take a bath as they believe the water has medicinal qualities to it. At this place around 17 subterranean hot springs fall together and the resulting water has a rich calcium carbonate deposit. This deposit gathers around the shores into chalk boulders and they are visible from around 10 miles.
