Kenya is one of the very few countries in Africa to have an award winning, excellent and fastest growing national flagship carrier. It is the excellent services that have help boost tourism in Kenya as well as the fine, unspoilt and safe tourist attractions like the Nairobi National Park.
Apart from the Mombasa beach attraction, Nairobi National Park is the most visited location. This park is only 7 kilometers from the city centre; hence whether you plan on visiting the amazing beaches in Kenya, you can still spare a day and stay in the capital city to include this park in your itinerary. The Nairobi National Park was established in the year 1946 and is the country’s first ever national park. The one thing very unique about this park, that makes it stand out any other, is that there is only a fence separating the park’s wildlife from the metropolis Nairobi. You can even look at the city’s skyline and the sparkling skyscrapers from the park. However, not many people will favor this proximity. There is always a threat of any unpleasant occurrence or encounters between the humans and wild animals at this border line or Urban and Natural extremes. There has been criticism about animals’ housing, and they now have more spacious housing in a more natural environment. The small size of this national park is also criticized for being a hindrance in animal migration routes. Yet, to the world’s surprise Nairobi National Park boasts a large and varied wildlife population. It is one of Kenya’s most successful rhinoceros sanctuaries and Migrating herbivores gather in the park during the dry season creating an amazing opportunity for wild life researchers and photographers.
Although the park may not fit a 100% on the scale for a perfect National Park, it still is a well maintained and flourishing reserve. A visit to Nairobi is considered incomplete without a safari in the Nairobi National Park. The park includes hyena, black rhinoceros, cheetah, leopard, lion and diverse bird species, other famous animals of the park are wildebeest and zebra. The migrations occur in July and August every year. The Ivory Burning Site Monument, the Nairobi Safari Walk and animal orphanage are also important to be mentioned.
If you are on a family vacation, Nairobi National Park is a great place to provide both information and entertainment to your kids. Every week, there are school and college trips to the park. The park’s Wildlife Conservation Education Centre has lectures and video shows about wildlife and guided tours of the park and animal orphanage. These tours are aimed to educate schools and local communities and ensure a safe environment where urbanization and wilds can co-exist.
