Padang Matsirat is one of the major attractions of Langkawi that is beautifully nestled in seclusion and provides an ideal escape from the noisy and vibrant life. Majority of the tourists who take cheap flights to Langkawi just prefer to spend their time, observing the fascinating and appealing spots of this region- you have to use car, as all of them have great distances, in between them.
Moving towards the western side you will hit more stunning and eye catchy areas of Pantai Cenang and Pantai Tengah. Mahsuri’s Tomb is one of the most popular and fascinating spot of Padang Matsirat. Mahsuri was a Malay princess who was innocent yet sentenced to death. So people come here to visit her shrine that lies inside an enclosure with a large slab of white stone. You will also be able to spot a theatre here which is used for live performances. As it’s the most legendry story and notable destination of Langkawi, it remains crowded with people.
The Atma Alam Batik Art Village is another alluring temptation of the area that is known to be the most popular focal point of batik production and sales centre. Almost half acre of the land area comprises handicraft shops, showroom, art gallery and batik workshop.
Featuring a magnificent hand-carved river stone mural and an impressive three-tier fountain, the village of Air Hangat emulates a spacious spa where you can soak in to the warm pools or just stroll through the village. It has wide variety of an on-site theatre restaurant with Indonesian, Thai and Malaysian cuisines. Don’t miss the opportunity to hit the lush green site of Buffalo Park that houses more than 100 well-kept Swap and Murrah buffaloes. They get more than 1,000 liters of milk a month, from this sprawling 20 hectare park that is further packaged as ice-cream, curdled milk, and flavoured milk and fresh milk.
You will be enthralled to milk one of the buffaloes and can also try riding. The Field of Burnt Rice is another attraction of the town which is very famous for an old incident- a mass rice paddy burning conducted by local villagers, who burnt these fields to protect them from invaders and its history date back to the time period of early a8th century. You must spare some time to travel though these fields and you will be amazed to see that during the rainy season, some of the burnt grains appear on the surface. The Langkawi Book Village is another allurement of this land that is set in s Malay-style kampong house, surrounded by the lush green vegetation of Lubok Semilang. It stocks a wide agglomeration of antiquarian, rare, second hand books encompassing a broad range of topics.
From here you can walk up to the top to hit a recreational park sit beside the beautiful gazebos or dip in the cool stream. Also don’t miss the chance to visit the 25-hectare Mardi Agro Tech Park and The Snake Sanctuary.
