Penang located in the northwest of Malaysian mainland, is the second smallest and eighth most populous state of Malaysia. Although it is a small state, but it has every color and flavor that Malaysia has to offer, that’s the reason it is called mini Malaysia. Penang is truly a great fusion of east and west, with its modern architecture and facilities you will also find the vintage buildings of colonial and even some of pre-colonial era.
It also boasts the cultural diversity that Malaysia is so famous for, Malays, Chinese, Indians and some British settlers from the colonial era living together with peace and tranquility. Many airlines offer flights to Penang including Malaysian, Singapore, Cathay Pacific and Etihad Airline.
Penang has some of the most beautiful beaches of the world, located mostly in the northern part of the country. One of the most developed of these beaches is Batu Ferinnghi, teeming with restaurants, hotels, resorts and recreational parks it is developed especially keeping in mind the needs of European market. You will find its soft sandy beaches and the facilities that it has to offer quite appealing. If you have ever been to Phuket, then this beach will surely remind you of patong beach there. Another famous beach is Tanjung Bungah, located close to George Town. With its white sandy beaches hidden in lush green background it has one of the best views of the horizon in whole of the island. Some other beaches that you may find attractive are Teluk Kampi beach, Teluk Bahang and Pulau Island that is also known as Aman or Peace Island.
One thing that makes Penang a superior destination than others in the region like Phuket for example is that the amusement here does not end at the beaches. In fact going to the beaches are just a small chunk of what you can do in Penang. The historical city of Georgetown has some great sights that you surely will not want to miss. It is in the UNESCO’S historical site listing and the opportunity to observe the magnificent colonial era architecture and humbling religious and cultural legacy of the town is hard to be missed out on. Some of the most famous historical buildings outside of George Town are Emperor Jade’s Temple, Reclining Buddha Temple and Kek Lok Si Temple.
Penang has something for everyone, and that includes the kids as well, so there is the world’s largest toy museum in Tanjung bunga, with more than 100,000 toys, dolls and models. There are also some natural wonders there as well, like Butterfly farm and Penang’s Spice garden.
Penang can be a great vacation spot for a lonely backpacker, a couple or a whole family, because it has something for everyone. So book yourself a nice direct flight to Penang and have fun.
