According to many transport firms, the current political unrest in Syriahas deteriorated travel services between Jordan and Syria. It was reported that the frequency of travelers had already started to decline with protests coming to Syria in the past six months but traveling came to a grinding halt right after the borders were closed near Ramtha.
Jordan times was further told by an owner of 3 transport offices in Amman that his business had dropped at a rate of 95% resulting from the uncomfortable events at the main entrance of Syria, the city of Daraa. On another occasion, a citizen named Abu Oudha, quoted that before the turmoil had griped Syria, about 30 cars used to travel to neighboring countries carrying people on daily basis but currently the figure has dropped to a shocking 3 cars per day. One transport owner was reported as saying that the drivers felt scared to travel to Syria as they considered it a dangerous place to be at.
Not only transport officers but also Insurance companies have complained facing losses due to the ongoing tussle between the Syrian government and the protestors. The director of Jordan Insurance Federation, Maher Al Hussein, while talking to Jordan Times briefed that car insurance companies serving Syrian visitors have also faced losses due to unrest in the next door country and those insurance companies that have direct business links with Syria, will take long before they could recover since people are expected to be reluctant to travel to Syria even if the conditions improve.
