Sparkling City – Port of Spain

Port of Spain is the capital of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and is the third largest city in the country. It is one of the most developed cities in the country and is the Center of economic, political and cultural activities. This city being home to two of the largest banks in the region is the financial services center for the Caribbean.

Port of Spain is a popular tourist destination and especially for the nightlife and party lovers. This city has some of the greatest nightclubs and entertainment complexes including some of the most expensive ones in the region. Many international and regional performers have performed in the city like Rihanna, Akon, Usher, Outfield, Sean Paul and Chris Brown.

This city is home to some of the best-known hotels and many restaurants offering cuisines from every part of the world. This city is also very well known for being home to the National Museum and Art Gallery of Trinidad and Tobago, the National Museum is further divided into two smaller branches one is located on South Quay, opposite City Gate known as the Fort San Andres. The second one is The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service Museum situated at the Old Police Headquarters on Saint Vincent Street. National Museum displays many artifacts from the ancient Amerindians who were the earliest settlers in the region; this museum also displays portrayals of different festivals in the country along with displays by local and international artists.

Transportation in and out of the city is overwhelmed by heavy traffic delays. Highways of the city are equipped with CCTV cameras, lane markings, road signage and other safety features. City Gate is the transportation Hub for buses and minibuses, a ferry service and water taxi service connects Port of Spain with Scarborough, San Fernando and Tobago. About twenty-five kilometers east of the city is located the only airport of the island known as Piarco International Airport named after the small town Piarco where this airport is situated. This airport has direct services to Canada, United States, Europe and South America, and also serves for all the flights to Port of Spain.

Port of Spain has a vibrant culture with lively people and you don’t feel like a tourist or a stranger in the city. Carnival is a famous festival celebrated in most islands of Caribbean but the true entertainment can only be enjoyed at Port of Spain as this sparkling city celebrates this festival in its own energetic style. Over the entire city is a perfect place to spend some time with friends or family and even if you are alone you can enjoy the fun of your life in this Sparkling City.
