New Zealand is more famous for the solitude, calmness and peace of its tourist destination. While this is true for the surroundings of Rotorua the town itself is always buzzing with activity as it gets a tourism traffic that exceeds three million visitors traveling to it annually. The sulphur filled air of the area provides a unique feel to the place and the its mud baths are believed to have more healing abilities than any where else on the planet. Being the major tourist attraction of the North Island, Rotorua is well connected with the rest of the New Zealand. It has a small airport of its own and receives daily direct flights from Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. If you are flying from abroad then you should prefer taking a cheap flight to Auckland and then a connecting flight to Rotorua. In the recent years the town has received huge investment in its tourism infrastructure and it will be evident to you by the numbers and quality of its hotels and resorts, it is in fact called now the Resort Town of New Zealand. The beauty of the area is so stunning that every thing here has a sacred feel to it and it has inspired the Maori who are the indigenous people of New Zealand to give the name to it that literally translates as the Land of the Sacred Waters.
There are tons of things to do and see here but first head to the Rotorua National Museum in the center of the town which will provide you ample information about the history of the town and the archaeological finds in its surroundings. Another attraction within the town is its famous Blue Baths, a Spanish Mansion kind of structure that was built in 1933 in the beautiful gardens of Rotorua.
Once the premier attraction of the town, today the most of the building is part of a museum but there is still a functioning hot bath in the northern quarters of the mansion and it will worth taking a dip. For observing the culture and lifestyle of the Maori people head to Te Puia the most visited and complete cultural attraction of the community in the country. There is a show room in the complex that put some carvings and other artifacts made by the Maori people with the same techniques that their forefathers used before them.
It’s a buzzing town, and the reasons for this buzz are the tourists that flock the town all year around. To cater to the needs of these tourists the town has morphed into a big entertainment spot with numerous restaurants, cafes, bars, pubs and night clubs. The cuisine of its restaurants ranges from the traditional Maori dishes to the international ones. The nightlife of Rotorua is considered as the most vibrant in the whole of the North Island.
