Queen Elizabeth National Park is an amazing and excellent game reserve of Uganda which is situated in the western part of the country and is extremely famous for housing an exceptional and distinguished variety of wild life. Thousands of travelers take flights to Entebbe to explore the most diversified and protected eco system of Africa which also features the interesting and amusing activities of abundant of animals. It is spreaded over a land area of approximately 1,978 square kilometres and consist of Bushenyi , Rukungiri, Kamwenge and Kasese districts. Its complete stretch starts from the north-eastern region of Lake Gorge and it further extends to the south-western part of Lake Edward and it also comprises the Kazinga Channel that serves as a significant connection between the 2 cascaded lakes. The park was established in 1954 and got its name as an inspiration from the queen of England.
Due to its immense bewitchment and distinguished features the park is commonly called as ‘the Switzerland of Africa’ or ‘the peal of Africa’. The park is a spell casting oasis of lush green grassy plains, scenic water lakes, tropical forests and volcanoes craters .There is an array of gleaming hotels and lodges that have beautifully adorned their interiors with the elephant tusks, leopard’s skins, deer heads and stuffed lions but you must try to shoot with camera and not with the gun, as these rare and endangered species of the area have to be protected.
It also serves as a home of almost 600 distinctive breeds of birds and approximately 100 mammal species. The wildlife consists of leopards, lions , hippopotamuses, elephants, Elephants, the Uganda Kob and buffaloes. Apart from it, the Ishasha district that is situated in Rukungiri region is highly famous for the tree climbing lions that can rarely be sighted. Besides, this particular area also shelters the species of birds like Papyrus Canary, White-winged Terns, Pink-backed Pelicans, Black rumped Buttonquail, White-winged Warbler, Long-tailed Cormorants, African Mourning Dove, Black-headed Gonolek, and Grey-headed Kingfisher. The Kyambura Gorge that is located adjacent to the north-eastern outer part, acts as the actual ‘’Tarzan domain’’ where you will love to spot the dense tree canopies and hundreds of stems dangling downwards from the huge trees. The most striking feature is that it serves to be the home of naughty chimpanzees stroll and chatter in the green plantation.
The park offers you a vast variety of interesting and adventurous activities such as Game Drives that can be best experienced in the day time and also in the late afternoon –the sight of hungry leopards, the bush backs ,the elephants searching for water and buffaloes sitting on the sides of water channels ,is truly enthralling and exciting. You can also opt for a ‘’walk on foot’’ with an assistance of a professional guide or expert who can help you to spot various poisonous pythons in the grottos of the bats –situated adjacent to the azure blue water lake.
