Abuja the metropolis of Nigeria is the home of many entertaining and fun-offering parks amongst which the Millennium Park is the greatest which is situated in the Maitama District. The park was inaugurated in December 2003 by Queen Elizabeth 2 of England. The park now stands eminent and significant among the other charming parks of the world and a large number of people take cheap flights to Abuja to view the surprises hidden at the park. It has truly matured into an engaging area with a number of interesting activities and sites.
A river as made its passage through the park and it bisects it into two portions. Some area of the park has been dedicated to the unpolluted and pure nature. There is a wide system of terraces located at distinctive levels where you will be able to find greenhouses for tropical birds and butterflies, brushwood, rainforest, deciduous forest, savanna and mountainous greenery of Nigeria.
On the other side, situated at the main entrance the area is reserved for natural ambience and scientific knowledge and this portion of the park has the cultural and traditional layout of Italian style. Once you step into the park, a rectilinear track totally covered with the Roman pavement of limestones will take you to the lush green fields of the park. Besides, there is an array of sprinkling-water fountains which serve as a source of great amusement and enjoyment for the visitors, especially during the hot sunny days.
The path with the fountains has a visual link with the gigantic holy tree of the city known as the Cotton Tree and situated adjacent to the Aso Rock- an elephantine outcrop of the rock which is the most notable and distinguished igneous and metamorphic rock having the elevation of about 400 metres. The word Aso is used for ‘Victorious’ in the local language which has now been displaced by Asokoro meaning ‘the people of victory’. The site is also very famous because many significant buildings are located nearby such as the Nigerian Presidential complex- also known with the name of ‘The Aso Rock Presidential Villa’ or ‘State House’ is the dwelling place and office of the president of Nigeria.
In its close vicinity lies the beautiful building of National Assembly- which has the power and authority to make committees and also to scrutinise the bills. You will also be able to find the building of the Supreme Court in the neighbouring region. The overall layout of the park’s path is a three-pronged geometrical style that is kept apart by the large polygonal-shaped pools. You will be mesmerized to see the multicoloured (majorly red and yellow) bushes, crossing the roads in the series.
The astonishing Millennium Park designed and conceived by Manfredi Nicoletti- an Italian architect, has now become an outstanding and the most pleasing place which brings agglomeration of people together in a single day and when you plan a trip to Abuja, you must include the name of this magical park on the top of the list and don’t forget to bring the cameras as the park provides many jaw-dropping and awe-inspiring landscapes.
