Kafue National Park has been listed as the largest park of Zambia and the second largest one in Africa which provides shelter to almost 55 distinctive species of wildlife and extremely grabs the attention of adventurous travelers and force them to take flights to Lusaka and explore one of the most astonishing and wonderful parks of Africa. It has been named on River Kafue that stretches towards the outer edges of 3 provinces in central, southern and north-western region. The park was inaugurated in 1924 and with every passing day, it flourished as one of the best-loved tourists spot with a diversity of ecosystem.
It has been recorded that the park houses the largest population of animals as compared to any other parks of Africa and with due to a major increase in luxurious and exclusive accommodations (camps and lodges), it has become even more appealing and offers friendly welcomes to all the admirers. Its major area is composed of ‘Miombo woodland’ that is blanketed with the trees of Brachystegia and Julbernardia and possesses the unique and distinguished bark which is fire-resistant. The complete region is dotted with trees that have the outgrowths of termite mounds and these kinds of spots serve as the habitat for a variety of Chats, Thrushes and warthogs. The nearby parts of the park contains abundant of termite growths, that have formed over hundreds of years, particularly in several cliffs that are covered with Euphorbia Candelabra and Jackleberry trees.
Moving further you will hit the jewel of this marvelous land called as # The Busanga Plains that are wide flood stretch and always remain submerged in rain water, throughout the year so a large quantity of buffaloes and also the herds of Billed storks can be spotted, who survival depends on the snails and the invertebrates that dwell in these water lagoons. Apart from it the rare crowned cranes and Wattled cranes can also be seen, strolling here and there in the lush green grass lands in search of insects and beetles. The plains are extremely famous for lions and Busanga prides and only a professional guide or expert can help you to locate them.
If you visit the southern part of Kafue, you will see the Itezhi Tezhi Dam that is spreaded over the land area of approximately 370 square kilometres. It is speckled with an amazing array of submerged trees and grassy lands –the dwelling place of many spoonbills, stately goliath Heron, cormorants, fish eagles and also zebra, wildebeest, buffalo and Elephants. Kafue National Park is declared as an excellent resort for spotting leopards specially during the night safaris. You may also get a chance to catch the sight of Cheetah in the southern part of Nanzhilla Plains and the northern side of Busanga plains. The place contains a wide range of camps and lodges for your convenience and comfort and amongst them the well-known ones are Kapinga Camp, Lufupa Tented Camp, Shumba Camp and Busanga Bush Camp.
