Most of the tourists to Peru, take Lima as nothing more than a landing airport and a staging ground for their ventures into the Andes. Reason being that on surface there is not much that Lima can offer to them in form of an attraction, lets face it it’s a desert city with dusty cliffs in the surroundings and a chaos on its streets. Lima has a long history which dates back to the times way before the arrival of Europeans to the continent and the monuments of that era are still visible in the city in the form of the Inca temples. The literally experience provided by the museums of Lima is awesome and these museums are worth visiting as they have artifacts from all eras of the Peruvian history. First thing to see in the city is its architecture and the best place to find the pre Columbian era buildings is the Central Museo Rafael Larco Herrara, a complex close to the city center with eight colorful restored houses of that era and provides a lot of knowledge about the history and the architecture of the indigenous people of Peru. This 18th century museum has a collection of more than 50,000 artifacts from different eras of Peruvian history and is considered as a must see sight during the stay in Lima. Another historical place that is worth visiting is the Plaza de Armas, which was built in 1650 and today its only building that have remained intact is its cathedral which is considered the oldest still standing building in the city.
Like the most of its neighbors, meat constitutes the main diet in Peru and if you are a vegetarian then it will be hard for you find any restaurant in Lima that has anything on menu other than the meat but if you enjoy meat then Lima’s restaurants will become your paradise. Peruvian cuisine is considered one of the best in the continent and you will surely enjoy eating out in Lima.
The city’s night clubs and pubs are famous worldwide for their party scenes and you will find quite a lot of them on the eastern side of the city center. Peru has one of the lowest crime rates in South America, so feel free to wander around the city and enjoy a late night party in one of its many bars and clubs.
