Japan’s major airport Tokyo Narita International has been closed to flights following yesterday’s deadliest Earth Quake with a magnitude of 8.8. The earth quake unleashed a 10-meter-high tsunami along parts of the country’s northeastern coastline sweeping away cars, boats, livestock, homes, bridges and people.
Many are reported injured, massive damage to infrastructure is seen while reports are still coming from other parts of the Northern Japan. The initial reports also confirm the death toll to be 26, caused by what is one of the strongest earthquakes ever recorded in Japan. Also fire broke out in certain areas of the Northern Japan causing uncontrollable damage.
In other parts of the world, Tsunami sirens were sounded earlier today including Philippines, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, New Zealand, Hawaii Island and others. The Tsunami alerts and warnings released over the past few hours state that strong waves may hit the coastal regions during the day and evacuations are being carried out.
After last month’s New Zealand earth Quake that was measured 6.3 magnitude, this recent earthquake in Japan has been the strongest this year. All flight operations have been terminated and travelers are advised to follow the Tsunami warnings worldwide.
