The Great Pyramid of Giza being Egypt’s top attraction and the last surviving member of the “Seven Wonders of the World” is definitely not a place to be missed. See the history unfold and experience the magnificence of ancient engineering and architecture. Plan and book an affordable cheap flight to Cairo to experience the ancient spectacular.
Giza actually comprises of three main pyramids i.e. the Great Pyramid of Khufu (also known as Cheops), The Pyramid of Kafhre and the relatively small pyramid of Menkaura. Each of the pyramids is the tomb of Egypt’s different king. There lies a Sphinx in front of the pyramids (also known as Abu-al-Hol, meaning “Father of Terror”). Mesmerizing millions of coming visitors, the huge cat like sculpture was carved out from a single block of stone.
It is generally believed that both the pyramids and the sphinx were constructed during the 4th dynasty of the old kingdom of Egypt which is considered the 1st civilization on Earth roughly 5,000 years ago. Experts are yet to reach on the consensus about how the pyramids were build but most are in agreement that it at least wasn’t done by the aliens.
Many speculate the pyramid of Khufu alone was built by about twenty thousand laborers and used about 2 million stone blocks weighing 2.5 tons each. The sheer scale of the pyramids still amazes the visitors and they get astonished by the level of ingenuity its builders had thousands of years ago. There are many ways to get around the pyramids after you have reached the destination from Cairo using a taxi or a mini-bus.
Afterwards you can reach the pyramids by taking a walk, horse/buggy or a camel ride but the last one is recommended. There are a few advices however if you are thinking of climbing up the pyramids as the practice was made forbidden since 80’s. Climbing up the side late night is something many visitors try but it actually ruins the view and spoils the visit just for sake of little thrill.
You can go inside the pyramids but caution should be taken if you are suffering from claustrophobia as the climbs are quite steep as well as narrow so you got to have strong and “well prepared” knees. It is also highly recommended to get to the pyramids as early as possible as separate tickets are needed to get into the pyramids and are limited to 300/day. It’s also a good idea to visit the fore-runner to the Great Pyramids by heading towards Saqqara and seeing the “Step-Pyramid” which is considered as the first pyramid that was ever build and has its roots back around 2800-BC.
So get ready to experience and explore the magnificence of the ancient architect and prepare yourself to get amazed by ancient work that many believe even with today’s technological advancements cannot be achieved!
