The highest, driest and the most isolated country of the South America; Bolivia is the place to see the real beauty of the continent. The greatest attraction of the country is perhaps the diversity of its climate; it is one of the coldest, warmest and windiest places of the earth. Another thing that makes it unique is the indigenous population, 60 percent Bolivian claim to be of indigenous ancestry and is the highest percentage in whole of the Latin America.
La Paz, the capital of the country also has its only airport. You will not find that many airlines offering direct flights to La Paz. If you are flying from Europe then the Best option can be a flight to Chicago or Houston and then a flight with American Airlines to La Paz. Bolivia is the poorest country of South America but it is the wealthiest when it comes to the natural beauty. Start your tour by spending a few days at Sarota, a gorgeous valley at the foot of the snow caped peak of Illampu. It is considered as the best place for relaxing in the whole of the continent. The colonial era cottages here can provide you with a cheap accommodation and the view of the peaks around you will be stunning. It’s also a great place for trekkers and mountain climbers, most of them use Sarota as a base camp for climbing Illumpu or other peaks in the vicinity.
Potosi a small town to the north of Bolivia was once the wealthiest town of the Americas, because of the huge amount of Silver found in its mountains. Well most of the reserves of this precious ore have been exhausted but the churches and buildings of its boom era of 18th and 19th century are a treasure in themselves. It is a great place to see the colonial era architecture and also a good place to relax.
The real historical treasure of Bolivia is Sampata, the ruins of the cities of the great civilizations of the past. These ruins are believed to be of the pre-Inca era and astonishing to see is the engineering marvel of the people of that era. Bolivia may not have the beaches like the rest of South America, it may also be the poorest of them all, but the beauty of this land is surpassed by none in the whole of the continent.
