The Notting Hill Carnival kick starts on the last Sunday of August 2014, and it’s the perfect blend of London’s multicultural heaven. The two day festival of endless stalls and fantastic music is exactly what you need to end your summer on an upbeat note.
The Notting Hill Carnival is not just a tradition which has been celebrated since 1966; it is an event which people all over the world have become a part of and follow religiously.
This is a festival unlike any other as it provides you with the ultimate entertainment package. Filling the air of London with the sound of music, the Notting Hill Carnival hosts live stage performances featuring some of the most traditional to the most contemporary artists.
When and where will the parade start?
The carnival will take on the streets at 9 am sharp on the 24th of August 2014, so make sure you take public transport to get there as the streets will be packed with enthusiasts from all across the world. Get into the Caribbean vibe and join the parade of professional dancers. And remember, the main parade starts on Great Western Road. The route it will take is towards the Chepstow Road and then wind on to Westbourne Grove. It will finish heading down leading to Ladbroke Grove.The parade, music and all the fun will last all day to end at 8 pm post evening.
What to expect at the parade?
The Sunday Parade is where the flamboyant costumes are showcased while the performers dance along to the hypnotizing rhythms provided by the steel bands. All the while, the parade will also showcase emerging artists and performances of calypso and soca. This is truly a haven for all the music enthusiasts as it exhibits a range of music styles and genres. To enhance the sound, over 38 systems are located around the carnival.
The Grand Finale of the parade kicks off on Monday, which adds a dash of vibrant colors and sound. Enjoy performances as over 60 bands continue the parade dressed in jaw dropping costumes while dancing to the mesmerizing and spellbinding rhythms of mobile sound systems.
