Apple claims that it has made the biggest change to the iPhone since its launching in 2007. iOS 7 is the latest software upgrade made to the iPhone family, which is rumored to be traveler friendly. Myth or fact? Let’s examine. iOS 7 will significantly restructure the iPhone’s software leading to improved battery life and better multitasking. Travelling is always hectic and you are constantly on the move; this makes using our phones difficult when, for example, hurrying through a crowd. The easier to use and better multitasking upgrade can help in making this a little bit easier. The longer battery life is crucial when you are unable to charge your phone for some time – as is certain to happen when on a vacation.
Another important aspect of a vacation is photography. No trip is complete unless you take lots of pictures with your loved ones, to reminiscence for years to come. Not only is the camera enhanced with more features, the iOS 7 brings an assortment of brand new photo functions. You can now scroll through your photos faster and more precisely, thanks to iOS 7’s new feature that organizes the photos into ‘Collections’, ‘Moments’ and ‘Years’. Photos will now be grouped together based on the time and place of photos taken.
With the iOS 7, users will not only be able to share photos with others, but also allow others to share photos with someone else. The new Shared Photo Stream will allow the creation of a mega collection of all the photos taken on a trip – by all those who were on the trip. The purpose of a vacation is to create memories, and travellers will certainly opt for something that makes this easier than ever.
Another improvement, to the relief of travellers, is the new built-in Maps app. The new app will now include turn-by-turn audio navigation as well. Do you know what that means? No more bumping into others while looking into your phone’s screen or risk running into another car while driving. Just put on your earphones and listen to the turn by turn directions.
The Passbook app launched with iOS 6 will, of course, be available as well on iOS 7. Though launched with only a few airlines and hotels on-board, the app is now growing and has an increased number of airlines and travel companies. The app can be a great advantage for a tourist visiting a number of places where he has trouble holding on to a number of tickets, booking and boarding passes. With this app, you can hold any number of digital boarding passes, bookings, hotel confirmations and other tickets so you don’t have to worry about losing anything by mistake. As far as losing your phone is concerned, the additional security features prevent thieves from re-selling the stolen phone. This acts as a deterrent for phone theft – if they can’t sell it, why would they take it?
So, I think it’s safe to say that iOS 7 is, indeed, of great advantage to tourists and travelers.
