It’s almost that time of the year when you can finally take a break from your mundane work routine and head to your family for a perfect and refreshing family gathering. As expected, travelling during the holiday season can especially become a frantic and tiresome experience given the huge influx of people making efforts to head home. But if you’re a little careful, you can avoid those typical travel mishaps that can actually be the cause of a stressful start to a much-awaited holiday.
1. Remember, time management is the key:
The start of the New Year is one of the busiest travelling periods, so you may want to keep a few things in mind before embarking upon your holiday travel. Remember, New Year’s travelling wouldn’t be like your usual travelling experiences so you may want to prepare yourself beforehand for possible flight delays, the trauma of an overbooked flight, or even the tiresome wait at the long queues.
One of the best ways to avoid going through this is by booking flights scheduled in early morning flight schedules. You are likely to catch fewer people travelling during these times and hence dodging the long waits at the airport.
If you are travelling by road, you may want to include an hour or two extra in your travel time to take account of the busy traffic, long queues at check posts etc.
2. Book your flights well in advance:
If you haven’t gotten around to booking your flights until now, it’s time to stop thinking and book ASAP! No good can come out of delaying your flight bookings especially during this peak travel season which will only end up in making you book over-priced last minute deals. So in order to avoid paying a heavy price right at the start of your holiday, you need to book your flights well in advance.
3. Let your smartphones be your right-hand companion:
Where will be without our smartphones right? And just as you have it, these handy dandy gadgets have some amazing apps that will make your travelling completely stress-free. So before you head out for the airport or the road, make sure you have apps like weather app, world clock, flight tracker etc. on your phone.
These will help you not only make smarter packing decisions by giving you the updated weather forecasts of your hometown, but also help you navigate nearby ATMs when you hit your destination of travel. Downloading your favourite games may as well help you keep distracted in case you hit one of those lengthy layovers or face the difficulty of a delayed flight.
4. Make wiser packing decisions:
Considering it’s the most favourite holiday time of the year, carrying gifts is something to be expected when travelling during the Christmas holidays. A good precaution is to leave your presents unwrapped as there is a slight chance that security will ask you to unwrap items that they may arouse suspicion. So in order to avoid the heartbreak that accompanies unwrapping intended presents at airports, it is a good practice to wrap them upon reaching your destination of travel.
