The Boeing 787 was used to transport medical stock to Ethiopia’s central hospital before being handed over for commercial service. Ethiopian Airlines was handed over its latest Boeing 787-800 Dreamliner, making it the third of the revolutionary commercial aircraft model to be inducted in the inventory of the Ethiopian flag carrier.
The aircraft had arrived late in the last month on a direct 15-hour flight to Addis Ababa from Boeing’s Everett production facility. Addis Ababa hosts Bole International Airport which serves as the base of operations for Ethiopian Airlines. The aircraft was then consigned with providing logistical support to the primary health institution of the country, the Black Lion Teaching and Referral Hospital. The Dreamliner transported approximately 9,000 kilograms of medical supplies, making it the first initiative of corporate social responsibility under the airline.
“Corporate social responsibility is itself a formal binding on corporations, as they utilize the society’s resources, the general population, in particular,” said, the chief executive officer managing Travelhouse UK. “If every single entity or company plays its part, the affiliation of the community with the corporations will be visible in recognition of goodwill and dignity”.
The chief executive further added that the humanitarian efforts under Ethiopian Airlines are to be lauded in all respects, and should be further highlighted as an exemplary service for a flag carrier, stepping in its shoes for shouldering national support wherever and whenever needed. The Boeing 787 Dreamliner has set the bar high for revamping the fleet of the aviation industry.
Its body is composed of a new lighter compound for enhanced fuel efficiency, while larger windows, higher ceiling and improved seat spacing are features to focus on passengers suffering from claustrophobia on longer flights. Ethiopian Airlines has ordered a total of 10 Dreamliners for new inductions in its fleet.
Just recently, Ethiopian Airlines settled another one of its new Boeing 787 Dreamliners for daily flights to Frankfurt from its home airport of Addis Ababa. The airline is itself the main member of Star Alliance Network within Africa, while Frankfurt is the centre of the Star Alliance Network worldwide.
Ethiopian Airlines have been branded as a hallmark of excellence under the light of recent accolades and awards received this year. The African Airline of the Year award (2011-2012), AFRAA award and African Cargo Airline of the Year award are just to name a few of achievements claimed by Ethiopian Airlines.
