The stunning resort island of Bali was brought to life when Miss Megan Young was crowned the year 2013’s Miss World. Tears of joy were shed as thousands of fans stood up to applaud the spectacular crowning of this year’s Miss World pageant. Dressed in a pearl white glittering gown, Megan Young dazzled the stage with not only her radiant beauty but also her strong presence, leaving the runner ups from France and Ghana heartbroken.
Megan Young proudly beat 126 other gorgeous contestants that were taking part in this year’s pageant. Miss Young, 23 and US-born, moved back to her home town Philippines at the age of 10 and at present studying digital film. The crowd, which included many Filipinos went ecstatic with the country’s flags being waved enthusiastically throughout, when Miss Philippines was named Miss World 2013. Miss Young couldn’t hold back her tears as she accepted the sash and crown from last year’s winner, Wenxia Yu of China and pledged to “just be myself in everything I do, to share what I know and to educate people.”
Miss Young is the first Filipino to have secured this prestigious title. The ceremony was followed passionately by fans from across 180 countries worldwide. The pageant left Marine Lorphelin, a 20-year-old medical student from France securing the second place and Carranzar Naa Okailey Shooter, 23, also a medical student from Ghana securing the third.
The ceremony was performed with much enthusiasm and devotion despite widespread protests being held by the Muslim hardliner groups. After the nationwide protests in the majority Muslim country of Indonesia, the final was then moved to Nusa Dua resort, in southern Bali.
The final ceremony took place with tight security and well trained guards ensuring that everything was conducted without any disturbances. Protests were launched by the Islamic Defenders Front and threats were made to disrupt the pageant on the grounds that the pageant was defaming women and was against Islam on account of showing too much skin. The organizers of the pageant paying heed to these complaints initially offered to revoke the bikini round.
Nevertheless, the pageant was successfully conducted in beautiful Bali in the presence of heavily armed policemen.
