State of Brunei Darussalamis a state located on the island of Borneo in Southeast Asia. The history of this state dates back to seventh century, Brunei has a population of about 400,000 and has the 2nd highest Human development Index after Singapore in Southeast Asia. This Country is ranked 4th by IMF (International Monetary Fund) in terms of gross domestic product per capita at purchasing power parity. The nation is divided into four major districts namely Belait, Brunei and Muara, Tutong and Temburong. Some major cities and towns of the state include Kuala Belait, Panaga, Muara, the major oil-producing city Seria and the capital of the state Bandar Seri Begawan.
Bandar Seri Begawan is the capital of the nation and the largest city of the state, and has a population of nearly150, 000. It is a major cultural, economic and political center of the nation. The city has a tropical rainforest climate with nearly no dry season and precipitation can be expected any day throughout the course of the year, October to January are the rainiest months of the year and least rains are expected in the month of March. Average high and average low temperatures nearly remain constant throughout the year average high temperature being around 32 C and average low around 23 C.
A wide bus service network satisfies the needs of transportation having six different routes in the city. The main bus station is located in Jalan Cator. And to save the space this bus station is constructed in the basement of a multistory car park building, bus service is available from 6:30 am till 6:00 pm, and only bus No. 1 and bus No. 20 provide services till late night.
Satisfying the aviation needs of the country is the Brunei International Airport; this airport not only serves for international direct flights to Bandar Seri Begawanbut also serves as a hub for many airlines including Thai Airways, Air Asia, Singapore Airlines and Royal Brunei Airlines. “Penambang” is the name used for a water taxi service another mean of transportation between Kampong Ayer and Bandar Seri Begawan via Brunei River. This water taxi service also serves Malaysian towns of Labuan, lawas, Limbang and Sundar. These water taxis are available at different docks along the riverbank.
Brunei Darussalam is an Islamic state and the historic Islamic art of calligraphy and design reflects in most of the buildings and architecture specially Mosques, this city is home to some of the most spectacular mosques including the Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddin Mosque built in 1958 and Jame’asr Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque, one of the largest and the most magnificent mosques in Brunei. To make your visit more entertaining and enjoyable there are also many other recreational places in the city including museums, parks, libraries and historical sites.
