Nigeria is a large country that is located in the western part of Africa and is bordered by Niger to the north, Cameroon towards east and Benin in the west. Another major attraction of Nigeria is Yankari Game Reserve, which is located in Bauchi State over the land area of approximately 2,244 square kilometres. In 1991, it was declared to be the largest national park of Nigeria. It comprises woodland as well as savannah grassland and also a patch of hilly areas who elevation range between 200-400 metres with the highest one known as Kariyo Hill and has the height of 640 metres.
The park also offers shelter and refuge to some 50 breeds of mammals that include Hippopotamus, Bushbuck, Waterbuck, African Buffalo, Lion, Western Hartebeest, Roan Antelope, Tantalus Monkey, Patas Monkey, Olive Baboon and African Bush Elephant. The park also serves as an oasis of a large variety of birds; more than 350 breeds have been recorded here. The presence of Iron Smelting, Tunga Dutse, Marshall Caves, Dukkey Wells are the clear evidences of early human settlements.
