It is a truth universally acknowledged that a keen traveller in possession of a flight deal must be in want of a good tourist site. Now the civic beauty of faraway lands, while incredibly dynamic and contemporary in an experience for the first few visits, lose their appeal over time.
As you lean on to the window-sill of your apartment, finding your desires more or less choked and choices limited, let life take hold of you and hurl you into the ether of a new terrain. Explore the world, one island at a time!
Phuket, Thailand:
Phuket is where all the joy and delight of life seems rolled into one island. Organically connecting the man-made with the natural, it is precisely this heterogeneity which persuades island hunters to book cheap flights to thailand and rank it above most islands. The turquoise plasma of its sea and the sand as white as talcum powder, when seen through the balcony of a five-star resort is an aesthetic marvel.
Resorts like Sunsuri Phuket on the Nai Harn beach and Katathani Phuket in Kata beach are only a duo from the countless lodgings of repute. The mainland packs almost everything that’s supposed to be on the checklist of any metropolis- restaurants, shopping malls, gyms, clubs and all that.
Phú Quốc, Vietnam:
Visitors are never short of incentives when it comes to cruising towards Vietnam and with such islands as Phú Quốc on the showcase, the tourist inflow is greater still. Waterfronts of Cua Can and Ong Lan see more ripples during the summer season and most when it’s a weekend.
Combustible spirits would obviously like to opt for hiking on the rocks south of Ong Lan or decide on taking a PADI course. Rainbow Divers are renowned for providing PADI courses to natives and tourists alike, with multilingual instructors hired precisely for your convenience.
Bali, Indonesia:
Sunbathers are beginning to have a sense of buoyancy even before booking flights to Bali now that the sun is glaring down on the island in summer, making this the ideal time for a vacation. With ample sites scattered to the brim of the coast, more pleasantly visible through a ferry trip aboard the Bali Hai Cruises around the island, Bali has become proverbial for its panoramic merits. Rent a hut and dedicate your time to meditation and siesta!
Palawan, Philippines:
Palawan sells exactly what it advertises- a tableau of lush foliage, explosive cover of sunlight and endless hours of cosy coastal residence. As if by some unspoken rule, before setting themselves in motion, holiday-makers make straight for the island’s well-known luxury hotels and spa centres like Bahay Kalipay Detox Retreat and El Nido Resorts Apulit Island.
Their reputation has made everyone pay repeated visits to the facilities. After switching your gears, head for the shores or make a stopover at Robinson Place and stay tethered to the commercial zone.
Sipadan, Malaysia:
The paramount advantage of visiting a hybrid island is the luxury of freely oscillating between the town and the city, the shore and the mainland; as per the tastes. The typical particulars of aquatic commotion at Malaysia’s one and only oceanic island are best left to the reader’s experienced speculation- partly to avoid the repetitive details but chiefly to hold the element of surprise. We’ll suffice it to say, the experience can be anything but forgettable.
Sumatra, Indonesia:
One of the first few names that pop up while on island reconnaissance, Sumatra is no mythical El-Dorado that lies dormant in the mountains of Indies and yet has all the lavish endowments of mother nature upon it.
The historic Hindu-Buddhist temples followed by the later-constructed Islamic architecture still adorn this sixth largest island in the world. Complete a circuit of any of Sumatra’s satellite isles; ferries leave from Sibolga to the famous islet of Nias. Knifing your way through the water, you’ll relish every minute of it.
Sentosa, Singapore:
Fenced in by water from all sides and with a battery of hotels and restaurants, not to mention their countless peripherals spread far and wide across the inland, Sentosa is a pleasure-seeker’s utopia!
For an old bloke like me- older in ways if not in age- the Universal Studios Singapore was more than just a theme park; it’s an experience- ethereal and evanescent. That, coupled with an excursion to The Marine Life Park, is a true gesture of an accomplished traveller.
Koh Rong, Cambodia:
Koh Rong’s long-standing friendship with its tourists speaks volumes about its success as an emerging destination among island lovers. The indigenous stock of attractions very much supplemented by the advent of foreigners- ever since the boom in Cambodia’s tourism industry in 1995- looks forward to your arrival this year! Stand and stare at some of the most wonderful feats of local masonry about and don’t forget to collect souvenirs; Koh Rong is the catch of the season.
Hong Kong Island, Hong Kong:
No description, however wholesome, can do justice to the charms of this mistress of South China Sea. Like Matryoshka dolls, this island jam-packs sites within sites- Ocean Park, Victoria Peak, Repulse Bay, Happy Valley Racecourse, and the list goes on.
For the maintenance of good spirits, at least one visit to any of the island’s floating restaurants is compulsory. To collapse in the sands of Shek O beach is to relive childhood and the takeaway delight is almost always exponential; in spite of the occasional over tan, in spite of the occasional overeating.
Honshu, Japan:
When thinking of Honshu in the Far East, it costs no effort of imagination to picture the most peaceful and serene depiction of an island setting in Japan. A land mass combining rich history and rich beauty- the temple complex in Kyoto and Mount Fuji in clear sight; Honshu is a promising bet. When it comes to packing the punch, throw your bet for the Tokaido Corridor and stumble upon sites after sites.
