A few hundred kilometres away from Harare there is thundering smoke that has stolen the thunder of Zimbabwean and Zambian tourism. The ‘smoke’ is created by the Zambezi, one of the longest rivers in Africa that eventually runs between the borders of Zambia and Zimbabwe. The pristine Zambezi then melodiously falls at a point where it artistically cuts the basalt gorges and rocks and roars down. This cutting through river water hence creates mesmerizing smoke which gives the place the name of Mosi-oa-Tunya Falls, that actually means the ‘smoke that thunders’. ‘The smoke that thunders’ was later christened under British colonial rule and came to be known as the great Victoria Falls by a Scottish explorer, David Livingstone. Harare is calling you to witness the amazing Falls that has bewildered locals and foreigner for ages. So it is exactly the right time to get a cheap flight to Harare, the capital of Zimbabwe. The marvels of nature are just waiting for you and the thundering smoke is calling upon nature lovers. Pack up your bags and sail into the enthusiastic journey to Zimbabwe.
The splendid Victoria Falls lie in the middle of the Zambezi, where the wild river falls lower by gorgeously sculpturing the rocks down. It is two kilometres wide belt over which the river falls down into smoky pelmet and wildly rushing water. However, during October and November when the water level in the Zambezi is low then the magnificent carvings of the gorges provide another breathtaking attraction for the tourists. In the early twentieth century, a bridge was built by the British over the gigantically spraying falls that added tourist interest in the area. After the British rule was over, the centuries-old world beauty was then restored by Zambian and Zimbabwean national parks on either side of the Victoria Falls.
Victoria Falls are among the world’s largest and most exotic falls and they are placed distinctively amongst other great falls of the world because they breed a large variety of rare wildlife including elephants, wildebeest, zebra, warthog, giraffe, bush pig, crocodiles and hippopotamus. The most commonly found mammals in there are monkeys and baboons. Victoria Falls have also been breeding lions and leopards in its nearby areas. The area is also very rich in flora with mopane forest and some teak woodland.
The exotic splendour is a few hours away from the main Zimbabwean capital city Harare. There is a city-link bus service that connects the international city of Harare to Victoria Falls; not only this but private cars or charted planes also have access to the Falls. The popular tourist attractions include canoeing, rafting and cruising on the grandeur of Zambezi water that feeds the Victoria Falls. The tourists can even enjoy an aerial view of the falls with added view of the co-dwelling wildlife on a helicopter or microlight flight in an open cockpit. Bungee jumping is becoming increasing popular sport over the Victoria. Other than that game drives and safari trip along the falls is also very famous amongst the visitors.
